The tip of the forewing of the Promethea moth has a wonderful snake mimic pattern! This little one emerged today and stretched out the wing to show off that snake head with the big eye, the darker upper portion and the lighter lower portion. If you were a bird stumbling upon this pattern, you might just think twice about taking a bite. You can almost imagine a forked tongue coming out of the end of the wing.
